Maya Koren
Advocate — Family Law
Maya Koren is an advocate with ZUBOK & PARTNERS and works in family law.
For the firm's international clients that work appears wherever a family matter crosses a border — a marriage or a separation with a connection to Israel, arrangements concerning children living in two countries, and Israeli assets and inheritance held by families based abroad.
A matter of that kind is rarely settled in one place: something has already been decided, or is about to be, in another country, and the Israeli part has to hold together with it rather than cut across it.
The work Maya Koren takes on
Cross-border family matters
A marriage, a separation or an agreement between spouses with a connection to Israel, where the Israeli element has to be dealt with in Israel. What that element consists of is established first; then the documents it requires are prepared, and the negotiations and proceedings that follow are conducted here.
Children living in two countries
Arrangements concerning children whose parents are in different countries cannot be taken a step at a time in each place. The Israeli part of such arrangements is conducted from here and reported in English to a parent who will not be in the room.
Israeli assets and inheritance
Property, accounts and other assets held in Israel by a family based abroad, including what becomes of them on a death outside Israel. The Israeli side is handled here, while the rest stays with the client's own advisers.
Working with the client's advisers abroad
A family with affairs in more than one country usually has advisers of its own already. The firm acts as the Israeli member of that team and reports to it in English, rather than leaving the client to translate between them.
Practice areas
Languages
The firm works in English, Hebrew and Russian, and a matter can be conducted in any of the three.
